Non Basmati Rice

Rice that is not classified as basmati is referred to as non-basmati rice. It is estimated that there are around 10,000 different rice varieties globally, with the largest number found in India. Notably, basmati rice accounts for just 1% of India’s total rice production.

Non-basmati rice varies widely in shape and size, ranging from long and slender to short and thick, with some varieties resembling beads or being round. Unlike basmati, none of these types share its unique characteristics. Some examples of non-basmati rice that resemble basmati in shape include PR, 104 IR8, IR 64, and Masuri.
